Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 02/08/17

Action Comics #973 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The “alternate” Clark story is interesting, but it’s dragging on a bit too long. It needs to be resolved.
NickZ: They are doing a great job keeping things interesting without revealing too much about this mystery.

All-New Wolverine #17 (Marvel)
NickZ: Laura gets by with a little help from her friends, even if she doesn’t want it.

All-Star Batman #7 (DC)
Infinite Speech: The star of this issue was Poison Ivy. Hands down!
NickZ: Batman and Poison Ivy both surprise one another in this very poignant story.

Black #4 (Black Mask)
Infinite Speech: Kwanza Osajyefo does it again and I’m on the edge of my seat every single issue! Juncture vs Kareem should be huge!

Black Science #28 (Image)
NickZ: Despite trying to make amends, the McKay family can’t seem to escape the sins of their past, to the dismay of the entire multiverse!

Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love #3 (DC)
Martin:3/5 stars. I liked the 1st issue for its gothic horror themes, but Deadman is hardly in this.

Death Be Damned #1 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: This new title starts off as your standard revenge tale then unexpectedly takes a supernatural turn! I like it!

Detective Comics #950 (DC)
Martin: 5/5 stars. 2 great & 1 good story for the price of a regular comic. Cassandra Cain story is a highlight of the week.

Divinity III: Shadowman & The Battle For New Stalingrad #1 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: We see how Shadowman fell and meet the Baba Yaga. I’m gonna need Abram to come and save everyone right now!

Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme #5 (Marvel)
NickZ: The more we learn about Sir Isaac Newton, the more of a douche he appears to be.

East of West #31 (Image)
Arnab: So good. In just pages, you’re hooked and care about a character you’ve never met before.
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Better late than never, this is a change from previous issues, introducing new characters & fantastic action.

Flash #16 (DC)
Infinite Speech: I can’t get enough of Joshua Williamson’s Flash! He’s bringing everything great about Barry and his Rogues that should satisfy any fan.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Flash has arguably the best Rogues’ Gallery, & the end to this latest arc shows why. No one-dimensional villains here!

Gotham Academy Second Semester #6 (DC)
NickZ: Secrets are finally getting revealed and things are getting fierce!

Green Valley #5 (Image)
NickZ: I’m worried there isn’t going to be anyone left alive by the time this story comes to its conclusion.

Inhumans vs X-Men #4 (Marvel)
Arnab: At first I was getting irritated that no one, an Inhuman preferably, had died yet. But then the kids started talking and it got better.
Infinite Speech: Mosaic’s attempt to take over Magneto was a saving point here but it still annoys me that this whole mess is Emma’s fault.
NickZ: Why does it seem like the kids are the only sane, rational people in these hero vs hero conflicts?

Justice League of America: Rebirth #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Canary and Vixen on the JLA again is all I needed. This better be good when the main series starts.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars Really interesting premise but the origin story’s cliche. Not sure why Lobo’s on the team

Justice League/Power Rangers #2 (DC/BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: If you’re not having fun with this then I don’t know what to tell you.

Kingpin #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Nothing good comes from fraternizing with Kingpin. Nothing. But damn this was an issue that is worth picking up!

Motor Crush #3 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Love Domino Swift! Love the “interactive” pages! Love what this creative team is delivering quality storytelling issue after every effin’ issue!

Ninjak #24 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: The Darques take sibling rivalry to a new level and Ninjak continues to be a must read from Valiant!

Power Man & Iron Fist #13 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This feels like Walker is writing my life sometimes because I’ve had that dragon piss conversation before.

ROM Annual 2017 #1 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: IDW has given ROM the return he deserves so get this issue and start reading the series!

Supergirl #6 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Lots of action and a set-up for the future, but much of the dialogued & characterization seems repetitive.

Superwoman #7 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. This series started with such promise but this initial arc has lasted far too long & the ending is lackluster.

Titans #8 (DC)
Arnab: I like that we’re starting to focus a bit more on the others.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Nice to see some focus on the non-Wally characters but I’m mainly reading this series for his return & what it means

Unworthy Thor #4 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Jason Aaron was teamed with four of the most talented artists in the industry and it’s unfair to other Marvel comics that came out this week that this is so damn good!

The Wicked + The Divine #26 (Image)
NickZ: As the battle with the great darkness begins, these “gods” can’t seem to get it together.

Wonder Woman #16 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Origin of a new WW villain is interesting, & artist Evely does a nice job. I miss Nicola Scott on art, though.
