Accell #17 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech: Okay this is the issue I’ve been waiting for and I’m glad I stuck around a bit longer. You should too.
Adventures of the Supersons #6 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Tommy Tomorrow isn’t here to play games with the Supersons but now that we’re at the halfway point I’m not too sure where this is all going.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. So far, this hasn’t been what I hoped for in a maxi-series of these 2 characters, considering how much I liked the predecessor title. It’s partly because it’s outside normal continuity, but also the story isn’t that compelling.
Astonisher #14 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech: So am I reading a book about a hero or a villain now? Either way, Priest has me hooked!
Avengers #12 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: T’Challa is forming the Agents of Wakanda and holy $#!@ that roster is fantastic! Okoye is getting such a great push and I’m here for all of it!
Batman #62 (DC)
Infinite Speech: It was all a dream. A bloody fantastic dream…or was it? Tom King is working his way to something big and you’d be foolish not to stick around for it.
Martin: 4/5 stars. For a second this felt like reading an issue of Mr. Miracle, given the surreal environment & Gerads’ trippy visuals. It stands as a sort of 1-off issue, but does build a bit on what’s happened previously, including Bruce’s current relationship with Damian.
Batman Kings of Fear #6 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. This was probably my favorite issue of this 6-issue mini-series, which I’ve enjoyed much more for the art than for the story. I like seeing Batman get an emotional boost from people he’s helped, but it’s been written better in other stories.
NickZ: After Batman experiences a reverse “It’s a Wonderful Life” experience, he is reminded that the majority of criminals that encounter him are actually changed for the better!
Bitter Root #3 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Monsters are everywhere, a villain rises, and Ma Etta has an uppercut that would make Sagat jealous! So if you’re not reading Bitter Root you’re missing out on some fine storytelling!
Deathstroke #39 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Christopher Priest is juggling so much in this series and it’s one of DC’s best!
Die #2 (Image)
NickZ: Die is dark, imaginative, engaging, and fun as hell! Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans are crafting something magical with each new issue!
Domino #10 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Gail Simone pulls the feels out of you by the fourth page and cranks it up even further by the end.
NickZ: Longshot has a lucky encounter with Domino!
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: I’m already in love with Tom Taylor’s take on Spidey! It was great, hilarious, and fun…until that back-up story unexpectedly hit me in the gut like a random goon punching almost as hard as the Hulk!
Green Arrow #48 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The Dinah and Ollie relationship dynamic is particularly strong in this issue, and that makes for good reading. Ollie’s dealing with a lot of baggage and Dinah is there to help him through it. Count Vertigo’s declaration at the end was surprising.
Green Lantern #3 (DC)
Martin: 5/5 stars. This is exactly the type of thing I was expecting from Morrison on a book like Green Lantern – it just took him a few issues to show his stuff. Liam Sharp’s art is the perfect accompaniment.
Hit-Girl #12 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Okay, the BEST arc in the series is over and I’m nervous that what’s next won’t stand up to what we just saw!
Iceman #5 (Marvel)
NickZ: The end to another fun Iceman series! Grace and Stockman did a great job of expanding on Bobby’s exploration of his powers, sexuality, and role within the X-Men! Plus some good Emma Frost developments and the introduction of the first drag queen X-Men, Shade!
Justice League #15 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Snyder and Tynion are out here showing you know how you do a big superhero team book and what happens here is just the tip of the iceberg.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Exactly the type of JL story I like, pairing characters off and working to their strengths in different scenarios vs just another “world ending event” that’s been so common. Both the Thanagar Prime & Starman stories are very intriguing.
Kick-Ass #11 (Image)
Infinite Speech: I’m going to need Kick-Ass to stop walking into traps. She should just assume EVERYTHING from now on is a trap!
Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Saladin Ahmed is writing a terrific Miles and it’s been a while since Rhino got any sympathy from me.
Sandman Universe – The Dreaming #5 (Vertigo)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The conclusion of the 1st arc doesn’t really conclude anything, & just brings more questions. We’ve yet to find out who or what Dora is, Daniel is still M.I.A. and that’s becoming annoying, & Judge Gallows is a big jerk. Still, it’s fun and engaging.
Spider-Gwen Ghost Spider #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: A very somber epilogue to Spider-Geddon. They don’t usually deal with the deaths after a big event like this in comics but mourning the fallen just feels right.
Turok #1 (Dynamite)
Infinite Speech: Excited to see that Turok is back on the shelves but I’ll have to be patient with this while Marz gets the new readers up to speed on just who Turok is. The cliffhanger here tells me I won’t have to wait too long!
Uncanny X-Men #9 (Marvel)
NickZ: Legion-Nate trying to drown his own “mother”, Jean, is an image not soon forgotten!
Thor #9 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Roz Solomon is an Agent of Wakanda and next to Okoye is probably the baddest member of the team! You should see how she took down *REDACTED*!
Web of Venom: Venom Unleashed #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: If you love dogs and symbiotes then this is the issue for you. However, the story wasn’t compelling enough to keep me interested.
Young Justice #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: To quote myself: Young Justice #1 feels like the reason you got into comics when you were a kid if you’re not a kid already!
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. A great introduction to the new team and to the Wonder Comics imprint of DC, which so far looks to be infusing a spirit of fun, joy, and energy back into DC. Read my full review here!
NickZ: Beyond excited for this series! With the return of fan favorite characters & new additions to the DCU, this book feels special! I’m most excited to have Tim & Con back together again! Also, Patrick Gleason’s art is the perfect fit for this team!
