Adventure Time #74 (Boom!)
NickZ: Color your own adventure book! A great way to get your audience engaged in the story or a cheap ploy to not have to pay your colorist? You decide.
Avengers #683 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: All of you who wrote think pieces and screamed at Marvel for “rewriting history” should be feeling quite silly right about now.
NickZ: My dislike of Beast makes any issue in which he is the focus, not enjoyable.
Bane Conquest #10 (DC)
NickZ: If they would have condensed this series into six issues instead of twelve, it might actually have been somewhat good.
Batman #42 (DC)
Infinite Speech: So Catwoman beats THREE speedsters and Batman couldn’t even beat one a few months back. So does this mean that Catwoman is better than Batman now?
Martin: 4/5 stars. Really spectacular art, and the Poison Ivy story is interesting, mainly because we haven’t seen her in the role as Bat-villain much over the past few years. The story holds a sense of hopelessness, but injects bits of fun & humor as well.
NickZ: Catwoman takes out three Flashes and the fanboys go nuts! The how is indirectly explained in the comic if you were paying attention but more importantly, if Batman would have done it, would anyone have even batted an eye?
Batman White Knight #6 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Sean Murphy art is the main draw here. The exploration of Batman being the “bad guy” to a reformed good-guy Joker has been interesting, but the story is getting a bit complicated and over-worked.
NickZ: This Batman story has such a clever premise and the art is so amazing that I can totally see them making it into an animated movie in the not to distant future.
Black Lightning #5 (DC)
Infinite Speech: The reintroduction of Black Lightning has been a must read with every single issue!
Deathstroke #29 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Priest left me confused, entertained, and happy I gave this series a chance.
Doctor Strange: Damnation #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Elsa Bloodstone and Blade trading verbal shots at one another was just perfect in a great story!
NickZ: Wong assembles a ragtag band to help rescue Doctor Strange and while I’m not sure how much certain members of this team can help, I’ll literally follow them into the gates of hell…AKA Las Vegas.
East of West #36 (Image)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The post-apocalyptic alt-history Western returns, and Dragotta’s art is a good as ever. Lots of stuff happening with the Endless and the Union, and a great scene between Death and his son. Green Arrow #38 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. This finale rushes along at breakneck speed, but the arc comes to a satisfying conclusion accompanied by great Juan Ferreyra art.
Green Lanterns #42 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Fantastic art can’t help save a story that, while a bit better than the previous issue, still isn’t very engaging. Exploring the religious beliefs of the characters should be more interesting than this.
Hawkeye #16 (Marvel)
NickZ: Kate finds her family in more ways than one, and more importantly certain family members find her. This can’t be the end.
Iceman #11 (Marvel)
NickZ: Everyone needs to read Sina Grace’s Iceman run, he’s done more with the character of Bobby Drake in eleven issue than Marvel Comics has in decades!
Incognegro: Renaissance #2 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Zane goes “incognegro” for the first time and the investigation gets dangerous.
Infinity Countdown #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: So they saved the best for the last couple of pages of the story. Not cool.
NickZ: Some major developments for the character of Groot! And did they really bring that character back to life ALREADY!?!
Justice League #40 (DC)
Infinite Speech: This fight was not the kind expected but it was worth the read.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. There are some really interesting questions posed in this issue, as Batman’s “second” JL team realize that they were set-up and begin to wonder if they should sacrifice themselves so the “big guns” can escape.
NickZ: This was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read! If it takes two teams of the Justice League, consisting of 13 of the most powerful DC heroes, this much effort to survive the Watchtower crashing down to Earth, then it’s time to pack it up and go home.
Nightwing #40 (DC)
NickZ: Dick is an idiot! He’s going to Batman extremes of not asking for help but he is not on Batman’s level to be that stubborn and pig headed.
Oblivion Song #1 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Been waiting for this for a long time and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out!
NickZ: I swore to myself that I wasn’t going to get wrapped up in another one of Robert Kirkman’s crazy worlds and yet here I am itching for issue 2 to come out.
Rise of the Black Panther #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This walk through Black Panther history might annoy some purists but Evan Narcisse has been knocking it out the park with every issue.
Rogue & Gambit #3 (Marvel)
NickZ: This book is the best thing to happen to Gambit and Rogue since the 90’s. If they don’t (finally) end up together at the end of this series, I am going to be so pissed!
Shadow-Batman #6 (Dynamite/DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. The series finale has a bit too much filler to pad out a long drawn-out fight between the title characters, along with a lot of psychological stuff about the Shadow. It’s fine, but doesn’t cleave close to the pulp origins of the character.
Spider-Man #238 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: A great heist but the surprise mutant cameo at the end has my mind going crazy with all the possibilities!
Superman #42 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. I’m a sucker for Bizarro stories, and this fits the bill. Gleason’s designs for Bizarro are really great, & while sometimes Bizarro-speak is hard to translate, that’s part of the fun. Even the issue credits were great!
NickZ: As much fun as this issue was, I cannot put up with an entire issue of Bizarro talk, I just can’t!
Venom #163 (Marvel)
NickZ: The Poison-X conclusion has me so ready for Venomized! How will the the 616 deal with the Poisons? And how are they going to get Jean back to normal?
The Walking Dead #177 (Image)
NickZ: Sebastian is such a privileged little A-hole, Mercer should have let him die. The reunion between Michonne and her daughter was just too many emotions for me to handle!
The Wicked + The Divine #34 (Image)
NickZ: Gillen never fails to deliver with the surprises in this series and this issue is no different. I found the origin of the “12-Gods” and their “rules” so damn interesting!
X-Men Gold #23 (Marvel)
NickZ: All the prison bits were actually pretty fun to read. I can’t believe Iceman so easily allowed a villain to join the X-Men simply because he asked.
X-Men Red #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: I absolutely love how smart Jean is being with the use of her powers and how well she is utilizing this team, also her interactions with Honey Badger are adorable!
