Character Spotlight: The Power Rangers

What happens when you’re an ancient wizard who is forced to begin fighting your deadliest opponent you once spent millennia against all over again? Find some teenagers with attitude to finally end all this. Who are the Power Rangers? Let’s find out!

Thousands and thousands of years ago, a war broke out between the forces of good and evil that lasted for over two thousand years. On the side of good, there was Zordon, a great wizard who fought against Lord Zed and his witch, Rita Repulsa. Zordon would take the fight to an ancient Earth and was able to imprison Rita on the moon.

Ten thousand years would go by before astronauts from humanity would explore the moon, freeing Rita by accident. Sensing her threat returning, Zordon would have his faithful companion, Alpha, seek out a team of heroes to grant them the power to stop the forces of evil. The first set were a group of teenagers with attitude.

Giving these youths coins with great power, the team was able to turn into the Power Rangers, super-powered fighters with weapons and mechs at their command. The fight that lasted millennia was reignited once more with Rita sending out monsters to gain control over Earth while the Power Rangers fought them off, keeping the world safe.

Eventually, Lord Zed would arrive on Earth and new Rangers would also come along while others would retire. This went on for years, taking the fight all over the planet and beyond. New Power Ranger teams would arise to take over the good fight and where it once took so long for this war to rage, it was now being won in a matter of years.

When the fight returned to space, this war of good and evil between Zordon, Lord Zed, and Rita would finally end. Though the war between good and evil would change and move on, this battle had been won for the forces of good. The Power Rangers would continue on, going up against forces of evil that threatened good people anywhere and everywhere.

There you have it! The Power Rangers have been an amalgamation of American and Japanese TV making for over 17 years of shows. They would get many comics over the years with their many iterations. The first series is probably the most well known to many audiences and may have been their gateway into Super Sentai and tokusatsu TV and film. See you next time!
