Love can get really complicated. Legoshi knows that all too well. He’s a wolf in love with a rabbit. Even in his world of animal people, that’s not only unusual, it’s dangerous. So, who is Legoshi and how did this all happen? Spoilers abound but let’s find out!
Legoshi is the son of Leano and Miyagi, a product of a one-night stand. Legoshi’s mother had hoped to give him a better chance at life as a grey wolf if he had a grey wolf father. Legoshi is partly Komodo dragon, from his mother’s side. His grandfather, Gosha, is a Komodo dragon that would help raise young Legoshi, but the family did their best to hide their blood ties. Legoshi’s mother would commit suicide when he was only seven years old.
The death of his mother would lead Legoshi to resent his grandfather and made him feel like he might have been able to do something to stop his mom. Legoshi was a sensitive and quiet child which made it hard for him to make friends. He often spent his time collecting insects, which only further made other kids tease him. He would make friends with a dog named Jack who would become Legoshi’s best friend.
As Legoshi grew, his resent for his grandfather did as well, this would lead to him being sent to Cherryton Academy, so he wouldn’t have to be near his grandfather anymore. Jack would attend with him and the two would be roommates in the canine dorms. While Legoshi struggle to fit in, he would grow to become a fairly tall and strong individual, making him seem incredibly intimidating when he was actually a gentle soul.
Tragedy struck the school as a student would be found murdered, this was a classmate of Legoshi’s which caused him feeling the need to know who did this, beginning his own investigation. While running errands for the drama department, Legoshi would meet Haru, a white rabbit with a reputation for sleeping around. Their first encounter would lead to a miscommunication where Haru believed Legoshi had heard the rumors and wanted to see if they were true. In actuality, this was all news to him and he found Haru incredibly intimidating with her confidence.
This began a timid friendship between as Legoshi began to parse out his own feelings for Haru. He did find her attractive but felt he was in no way ready for a relationship, let alone with an herbivore. He desperately craved what he didn’t really understand for himself yet. To make matters more complicated, the drama club would begin needing Legoshi to be an understudy for their star, Louis, who was in the running to becoming the schools Beastar, a prized role the school rewarded the best students.
Louis would also be someone Haru was seeing, making Legoshi envious and jealous. All while Legoshi was getting closer to Haru, he was also still investigating the student murder. Realizing he may have real feelings for Haru, Legoshi would begin researching ways to ensure her safety from his carnivore instincts. This would lead him to a teacher who would train him to go against his nature and become a stronger fighter with his limbs instead of his fangs, helping him understand how to go against his instincts. Life was only getting more and more complicated for Legoshi.
There you have it! Beastars is a series about the romance growing between Legoshi and Haru, but also about bigotries and how society tries to make certain types of love forbidden. There’s more to Legoshi and Haru’s tale but that’s for the manga and anime to explore. See you next time!
