He’s a man of few words because he has to be. What would you do if any time you chose to speak, you could kill everyone and everything around you? Now imagine not only that, but you must rule an entire kingdom. On top of that, you live in a world where many people you interact with, if not all, have super powers and many of them want your throne, your kingdom, or your death. This is life for Blackagar Boltagon and he’s got a lot to deal with. How’s he handle it all? Let’s find out!
Blackagar Boltagon, is an Inhuman, an offshoot of humanity that was genetically messed with long ago by the Kree alien species to become a super-powered human variant. Blackagar Boltagon is the firstborn son to the royal Boltagon family, his parents, King Agon and Queen Rynda and brother to Maximus in the Inhuman kingdom of Attilan. To be revealed as an Inhuman and have your powers activated, you must be exposed to Terrigen Mist, the catalyst chemical, which then reveals what powers you have. Blackagar was still an embryo when his parents gave him access to the mist, they were both amazing geneticists and in Inhuman culture, genetics are revered. Experimenting on their child was the name of the game for Blackagar’s parents, to better prepare their son for the dangerous world he would have to be a ruler in, they made him stronger, tougher, and faster than even the average Inhuman, who were already tougher and stronger than the average human being. They would train him in his powers, both the inherent power he gained from the Terrigen Mists and their augmentations. He was raised in a soundproof chamber due to his powerful voice and given all his training by the best the Inhumans had to offer. When he was finally an adult, Blackagar was allowed to enter society, having fully mastered his powers.
Shortly after he left his training chamber, he would learn that his brother was selling out all of Earth to the Kree, to stop this, Blackagar would use his booming voice to take down their massive war ship. This would crash onto the Center of Genetics, where his parents were, killing them and others. Maximus would be nearby his brother and being injured in the process. Blackagar learned just how much devastation his voice could cause, even if it saved the world. Now Blackagar was given the title and responsibilities as King of Attilan at just the age of twenty. While he would have preferred to stay in the safety of Attilan, he would soon be pulled into the human world when his cousin had been kidnapped. This would begin Blackagar’s many adventures with super human society.
To keep Attilan safe, Blackagar would move the entire kingdom all over the place, either remote locations on Earth, in or on the ocean and even on the moon. Whatever he had to do to keep his people safe, Blackagar would always keep that in mind. Blackagar would find his queen in Medusa, another of the royal family lines, who he had met when they were young children, developing a bond as they learned sign language together. The two even developed a telepathic bond thanks to Blackagar’s augmented powers and their strong emotional connection. They would marry and even conceive a child, but in a society that has a ruling class lead by a Genetics Council, it was feared that Blackagar’s powers would be too dangerous to continue onward. Disgusted with this view on family, Blackagar would step down as king only to return when Attilan needed him and took back his crown. In that time Medusa would birth their son, Ahura, but his Inhuman powers would age him rapidly to adulthood and it would seem he shared his uncle Maximus’ animosity with Blackagar. Just as Blackagar would find enemies from outside of Attilan in supervillains and space aliens, so too would he inside Attilan with his own brother and son trying to usurp the throne for their own evil machinations.
As his connections with the heroes of Earth continued he was brought into a secret order, the Illuminati, a collection of the smartest heroes who would work behind the scenes to deal with big problems of their time, such as the Hulk. He would become related by marriage to a family of mutants known for their heroics as Avengers and their father’s terrorist attacks for mutant superiority with his sister-in-law, Crystal marrying Quicksilver, the mutant speedster. He would defend his kingdom from several Kree attacks, his brother, his son, and many other threats as time wore on, sometimes with him leading from the throne and other times far from home. No matter where he was, Blackagar Boltagon would do his best for his people.
There you have it! Black Bolt leads the Inhumans and has for many years despite the best efforts of those who oppose him. He’s been animated several times and even appeared on the small screen and technically the big screen for a showing of that small screen series. Where will Black Bolt and the Inhumans appear next? Who knows? See you next time!
