Avengers World #1
Publisher: Marvel
Writer(s): Jonathan Hickman & Nick Spencer
Artist: Stefano Caselli
Cover: John Cassaday & Laura Martin
When you make a bold statement like the Avengers did after Infinity, you better be ready to back it up. Well it seems as if someone has risen to challenge that statement, and that someone is the A.I.M. Empire. Yeah, those guys in the bee keeper hats have stepped up their strategies in a very big way, and have come to take the world away from the Avengers.
Now, with the Avengers roster expanded quite a bit during Hickman’s recent Avengers run, he and Spencer tell this story by breaking up the team into smaller squads to deal with the global threats appearing all at once. Hickman and Spencer do an excellent job in setting up this huge undertaking for the team as the various squads attend to their tasks. They waste no time in setting the level of danger pretty high, and even utilizing a really cool villain that hasn’t been seen in a while.
There’s no denying that Stefano Caselli brings a great level of visual entertainment to whatever book he’s on. Avengers World is no exception, and from start to finish it’s great looking panel after panel with the expressive characters and intricate level of detail we’ve come to expect from this talented artist. Frank Martin’s colors help raise the quality of art and make it difficult to choose just one favorite page or sequence in this issue!
Avengers World seems like a natural step in the right direction as far as the team expansion and their decree to the universe that the world is theirs and is under their protection is concerned. So there is a need for bigger stories and bigger threats, and with Spencer and Hickman positioning A.I.M. and their allies to take on that antagonistic role things should be pretty exciting in issues to come!
