Contest of Champions (CoC) Podcast Episode #12: Magneto & Exodus vs. The Protector

Welcome to Contest of Champions (CoC) Podcast, Episode #12! CoC is an interactive player vs. player game where your favorite Marvel characters go head to head to answer the eternal question of “who can beat whom in a fight?”
Join Jeff Jackson and Ian Johnson every week as they welcome two team managers who have a stable of five characters each ready to blast, zap, snikt, thwip, and smash their way to be the last one standing! It’s a little bit fan fiction, a little bit debate, a little bit role playing, and a whole bunch of fun! It’s an interactive adventure for the managers, and for the community.
This week, we’re joined by Andy Liegl & Dan Briand!

First, we want to remind you, if you are a comic artist, and you would like to provide a sketch or drawing of the characters battling this week, please send a link to your sketch to or We would love to spotlight your stuff!
Next, on this episode we shared our weekly Fights of the Week!
Andy threw a curveball and picked a DC book! Aquaman #2 by Geoff Johns & Ivan Reis has Aquaman & Mera throwing down with some dudes from the Trench.
Dan gives a great summary of the huge battle in Amazing Spider-Man #672 by Dan Slott & Humberto Ramos, where Spider-Man and the rest of the Marvel Universe take on the Queen!
Ian spins quite a yarn from Journey Into Mystery #630 by Kieron Gillen & Richard Elson, where Volstagg pretends to be the champion over the Serpent!
Jeff got a kick out of Wolverine & the X-Men #1 by Jason Aaron & Chris Bachalo, which had Wolverine & Kitty Pryde take on their biggest threat yet–state school inspectors!

  1. Billy

Magneto & Exodus vs anybody = Doom.

  2. Moses

I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t much rational or scenarios given by either manager. But for this fight, it’s gonna take some serious convincing for me to vote Protector. I”m an old X-Men fan, and therefore and much more familiar with the power sets of both Magneto and Exodus.

I would think Magneto could tear off Noh-Varr’s armor and/or manipulate the iron in his blood (or whatever metal Kree have in their blood.) Exodus could attack both Noh-Varr’s mind and body. Put both of these together, and Noh-Varr’s gonna be in trouble for sure.

  3. Jeff Jackson

Can Dan demand a plan to command his stand man-to-man-to-man?

  4. SpidermanGeek

Unfortunately. I don’t think I can Jeff. Noh-Varr is a tough Mofo and he packs a he’ll of a punch, but honestly… I’d vote for the double team if this wasn’t my character. You’re talking about two guys, who on there own typically need an entire team o heroes to take them down.

Protector has brought down entire teams before, but nothing close to the caliber of villainy that are Exodus and Magneto.

There’s nothing I can think of that Noh-Varr could do to take out both these guys. If he overcomes one of their powers, there’s another o e right around the corner.

You’ve heard me defend Noh-Varr before. The dude has super speed (White Run), pocket battlefield (which has it’s own physics, different from Earth’s). He has nanites in his saliva that causes mind control and hallucinations in anyone it touches. He can grow his nails into daggers that can break off into an opponent’s skin and cause a delayed explosion. He can fly. He can teleport. He can hack any computer system. He has triple jointed limbs which make him extremely flexible and durable (like a cockroach). He has custom Nega-Bands. He has Kree weaponry and armor.

He’s faced The Sentry one on one. He’s faced a troop of “Bannermen”. He took out most of the Young Avengers and Runaways in 5 Seconds with his White Run. He’s vicious. A Kree trained warrior with a killer instinct. He put The Worthy Hulk on his ass with his energy weapons. He took out all of Iron Man’s remote controlled armors by hacking into them.

He can do these things, but even I’m not convinced that any of them are even useful against these two mutants. We’re talking about 10 years of history in The Marvel U vs the combined 60+ years coming from Exodus and Magneto.

  5. Well, damn. Dan, you’re too good of a sport!

  6. Kinda feel like I wasted my DT here… bummer.

Had to do it though just in-case it became a throwaway (as in if I lose this fight, I couldn’t even use it).

  7. SpidermanGeek

This would have been a different outcome if I was facing just one of your guys Andy. Lol. 😉
