The good people of Dark Horse Comics have given us this killer exclusive: the “Tarzan” Variant cover to Dark Horse Presents #9!

Yes, that’s Tarzan with a flippin’ machine gun! Plus, a hungry lion!

Tarzan first appears in Dark Horse Presents #8 (part 1 of a 3 part story), and here’s the solicit info for that issue:

“The giant, swirling mass of comics greatness that is “Dark Horse Presents” continues to streak across the universe and towards your local comic shop with issue #8! Join the legendary anthology as “Dark Horse Presents” commemorates the 100th Anniversary of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “Tarzan” with Thomas Yeates, unravels the mysteries surrounding Neal Adams’s “Blood,” and brings you another heaping collection of great comics!”

I’m a big fan of Burroughs, mostly his Barsoom series, so it will be interesting to see how Dark Horse handles the beloved Tarzan property. If it does well, we can only hope for some John Carter adventures from the publisher. The five books (yes, five!) that are out right now from Dynamite Entertainment and Marvel leave much to be desired.

The variant cover pictured above will be featured on Dark Horse Presents #9, which contains part 2 of the Tarzan tale, available in comic shops February 2012!
