Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 8/3/2011

50 Girls 50 #3 (Image)
Andy: It’s rare a comic can make me chuckle, but there’s something about a sobbing lizard creature seeing space for the first time that’s amusing.

Batman: Gates of Gotham #4 (DC)
Andy: This has been a great story, getting into the origins of Gotham City…but when/why/how did Cassandra Cain become Black Bat?
NickZ: This story still continues to impress. I can’t wait to see how it ends.
Arnab: This issue continues what has been a fantastic story. Gotham’s history is becoming more and more real, and thus more and more dangerous.

Broken Pieces #0 (Aspen)
Andy: A cool enough concept, but still too early to tell much of anything else.

The Boys #57 (Dynamite)
Andy: I’m STILL eagerly awaiting the showdown with the Seven. I hope Annie gets involved, and it’s nice to see her and Hughie reconciling.

Caligula #3 (Avatar)
Andy: Just when I thought things couldn’t get any more messed up in this book, the next issue will most likely be a blood bath. Nasty!

Fear Itself Wolverine #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: A good Wolverine tale, but I don’t think it really needs to be tied into Fear Itself.

Flashpoint #4 (DC)
Andy: You know what I hate about juice boxes? They never quench my thirst. Yep.
Arnab: The army of good superheroes continues to grow as the S!H!A!Z!A!M! family join in on the great battle
NickZ:
My goodness this is a great way to say goodbye to the old DC. Best “event” book since Identity Crisis.

Flashpoint: Batman: Knight of Vengeance #3 (DC)
Andy: The best Flashpoint tie-in. Risso’s imagery is striking.
Arnab: By far the best Flashpoint tie-in. To be honest, I’ve enjoyed this as much, if not more, than Flashpoint itself.
NickZ: What a tragic tale. I loved where they went in this book and what the final resolution was.

Flashpoint: Deathstroke: The Curse of the Ravager #3 (DC)
Andy: At least 3 credited artists worked on this mini-series. If this is a sign for how the DCn52 are going to go down, that’s bad.

Green Wake #5 (Image)
Andy: This is one series that requires a second reading now that the opening story arc is completed. The art roped me in, now I need to make sense of it all.

The Infinite #1 (Skybound)
Andy: I liked it. It has potential…but will it last?
NickZ: Not going to lie, I’m not a huge Liefeld fan, but I’m intrigued enough to hang around for issue two.

Iron Man 2.0 #7.1 (Marvel)
Andy: How long was Rhodey in the suit for? 5 pages? Marvel continues to whiff with the .1 line-up.

Moon Knight #4 (Marvel)
Andy: Wow, this may be the first time ever where I’ve read 4 issues of Moon Knight in a row and liked them all.

Rachel Rising #1 (Abstract Studio)
Andy: Dudes, pick this one up and give it to your lady friend. It may get her into comics. Also, was that Julie from Echo in the beginning?

Red Skull Incarnate #2 (Marvel)
Andy: Every Marvelite should pick this series up. It’s dark and evil, and his skull hasn’t even turned red yet.

Scalped #51 (Vertigo)
Andy: Wait a second- Red Crow has had a change of heart!? Shunka a turncoat? What the hell!?!?

Severed #1 (Image)
Andy: A slow build, but I think that’s the point. The art really fits the tone of the book and sets the mood. Looking forward to seeing how this one plays out.
Arnab:
Excellent first issue. Early 20th century America has never been more creepy.

S.H.I.E.L.D. #2 (Marvel)
Andy: Dustin Weaver has destroyed any hope I had of becoming a comic artist. That guy’s stuff is amazing.
Arnab: Jonathan Hickman and Dustin Weaver have yet to release an issue that hasn’t been absolutely fantastic.

Star Wars Dark Times #1 (Dark Horse)
Andy: Man, even a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, this statement rings true: never trust a hoe.

Superboy #10 (DC)
NickZ: This Superboy arc started out really great, but I’m kinda bored with it now.
Arnab: This issue barely even has Superboy in it.

Superman #714 (DC)
NickZ: GROUNDED IS FINALLY OVER!! YAY!! This is one book that definitely needed the reboot. Hope the next series is much improved.

Sweet Tooth #24 (Vertigo)
Andy: A weird, but cool, issue. I would love to own one of those dream sequence pages.

Wolverine #13 (Marvel)
Andy: I want to see what this guy’s got on Wolverine. Then I want to see Wolverine take him down.
Jeff: It’s nice to get the perspective of one of the million Hand ninja that Wolverine has killed.
NickZ: Jason Aaron is doing an awesome job on this book, I am dieing to see what the “shocking” ending will be.

X-Factor #223 (Marvel)
Andy: Emanuela Lupacchino’s art is sexy.
Jeff: Did someone order werewolves? Because they’re all here!
NickZ: So much is going on here with mythological creatures, wolf packs, and perhaps a soulless strong guy? Plus Peter David’s daughter watched all the Harry Potter movies! WTF!?!
Arnab: This wolf business is getting dangerous and what’s up with Layla?

X-23 #13 (Marvel)
NickZ: I don’t think the FF needed to be in this issue. This crossover doesn’t seem to fit with were this book has been going.
Arnab: Spiderman, while amusing, makes and unexpected appearance along with the rest of the FF team.
