Marvel Snapshot: Character Spotlight: The Warriors Three (Asgard)

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another great character spotlight right here in Marvel Snapshot! In this week’s edition, I’ll be taking a look at Thor’s Asgardian brothers, The Warriors Three! Thanks to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for giving us these great compliments to Thor since 1965! I’ll give some background on each first, then go the team route.

First off we have Hogun the Grim. Hogun is the negative or brooding member of the group. He is a fierce warrior and is never one to jest in or out of battle. He’s basically the exact opposite of another member of the group. Hogun’s attitude is only matched by his ability to fight. He never backs down from any confrontation. Not even one with Fafnir, the mighty dragon.
Next is Fandral the Dashing. Fandral, at first look, seems to be more worried about his hair than the fight at hand. Make no mistake, Fandral loves to fight and hates to lose, so he has become one of the top swordsman in all of Asgard. Fandral loves to try and rile up Hogun for some fun as well. His easy going style aggravates Hogun sometimes, but when a battle is at hand, Fandral is not to be taken lightly.
Lastly, we have Volstagg the Valiant. At first, Volstagg was just comic relief, but after a while, he became more than just that. He uses his size and strength a lot, but also his wits. He usually seems more interested in his next meal rather than the fight in front of him, but he always fights for honor and to the best of his abilities. People really got to see his abilities and his sense of duty in the Siege: Frontline mini.

When these three warriors are put together, they make a formidable group to deal with. They have spent a lifetime trying to make Asgard shine above all other worlds, even Earth! You typically don’t see these three without Thor right beside them, but occasionally they do some solo work, usually at the behest of Odin. Whether on their own or assisting Thor, these Asgardians are one of the best groups around and only make stories more interesting and fun. Check below for some recommended reading and pics. Don’t forget to pick up the Warriors Three limited series starting in January 2011!

I’ve never read much from the other two, but I love Volstagg, he was great in Siege. A huge guy who loves to eat, and also has a fantastically heroic sense of honor.

@Eli- They all compliment each other very well. All 3 have vastly different personalities and work great in a story together!

I think they need to get a bit more exposure because they are pretty good characters and have potential to carry a series longer than a four issue mini.
