DC Universe News: Superboy Gets His Own Series

Yesterday, DC announced that the star of Adventure Comics, Superboy, will be getting his own ongoing series. Taking on the task of writing this series is Jeff Lemire, author of Essex County and Sweet Tooth. Backing Lemire up in the art department is Pier Gallo. A primer for this series can be found in Action Comics #892, coming this August, in the form of a one-off co-feature. DC also revealed some of Gallo’s sketches of Superboy, which can be seen below.

Lemire had this to say about taking on the project: “I am really excited to be taking over the adventures of Conner Kent/Superboy in a new monthly series! The book will combine many of the classic touchstones of the Superboy mythos along with new supporting characters, new villains and new ideas, building a strong foundation that can support the Boy of Steel for years to come. I really want to work with our amazing artist Pier Gallo to combine a classic storytelling feel with a thoroughly modern sensibility and explore what it would really be like to be a super powered teenager, in the heart of rural America.”

Sweetness! I was never a big fan of Superboy, I think it was the goggles and leather jacket, but since his return I’ve really been enjoying what DC is doing with him. I’m not at all familiar with Lemire’s writing, but Gallo’s sketches are pretty good. I’ll definitely check it out when it’s released and hope for the best. There is one thing I am curious about, however. What’s to become of Adventure Comics?
