AnimeNYC 2025: Industry and Iconography – Takeaways from the Bandai Filmworks Panel

If academia provides the analytical framework for how we process media, industry showcases remind us of the sheer, unyielding momentum of the machine. Moderated by Samantha Inoue-Harte, the Bandai Filmworks Industry Panel at AnimeNYC 2025 delivered a dense block of release dates, anniversary milestones, and a heavy dose of musical pedigree.

The heavy hitters arrived early with a spotlight on One Punch Man. Celebrating its 10th anniversary and a staggering 34 million copies sold in Japan, the production brought out heavyweights from the JAM Project, including Hironobu Kageyama, Masaaki Endoh, Hiroshi Kitadani, Masami Okui, and Yoshiki Fukuyama, to discuss their legacy of sonic devastation. During the Q&A, Kitadani revealed himself to be a connoisseur of American IPAs, while the panel reflected on the property’s unlikely origins.

Because One Punch Man bypassed the traditional manga magazine-to-serialization pipeline, its initial trajectory was fraught with industry uncertainty. It was the ferocious response of Western audiences that ultimately validated the project’s viability on a global scale. Attendees were also treated to word of a brand-new season 3 theme song incorporating structural elements from the iconic Hero track, with its official title slated to be revealed the following day.

Bandai’s slate for the broader calendar showcased an aggressive release schedule across streaming and theatrical spaces. Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX hits Amazon Prime Video in 2025, while Mobile Suit Gundam Wing celebrates its 30th Anniversary with a dedicated collection. On the theatrical side, Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Urdr-Hunt lands on Japanese screens on October 31, 2025, followed by Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe in 2026.

Live-action adaptations are also pushing forward, with Kowloon Generic Romance bringing its lived-in romance and sci-fi blend to the screen on August 29, 2025. Capitalizing on 8 million copies sold, I Was Reincarnated as the Seventh Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability dropped its second season in July 2025, and Idolish7: First Beat Movie Edition splits its theatrical run in Japan across October and December of 2025. Rounding out the horizon are the series release of Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers in January 2026 and a mysterious new Ghost in the Shell project looming on the horizon.

From classic mecha revivals to modern web-manga juggernauts, Bandai’s pipeline proves that intellectual property preservation and aggressive multi-platform expansion remain the twin engines driving the modern anime ecosystem.
