The future rules! What are you afraid of? Now imagine a world where Devils could walk the Earth, each representing different fears. This is the world of Chainsaw Man. So who is Chainsaw Man, how does he exist, and why? Let’s find out!
A young man named Denji never knew his parents. His mother died when he was born and his dad died when Denji was young, with his dad owing lots to the Yakuza. This lead to Denji being held responsible for his father’s debts. Owing millions, Denji spent his life fighting Devils to pay off the debt. At sixteen, Denji was quite physically fit thanks to all his fighting with Devils. His only friend was his Devil dog, Pochita, who Denji had saved when he was a child by feeding his blood to the dying Pochita to revive him.
One day, the Yakuza betrayed Denji to their new master, the Zombie Devil. Turns out, by befriending and taking care of Pochita, Denji had formed a contract with him. More importantly, Pochita loved Denji and vice versa; Pochita would replace Denji’s heart, resurrecting him as something new. Alive once more, Denji now had a pull-cord sticking out of his chest that, once pulled, would transform him into Chainsaw Man. Now he was technically a Fiend, which are beings that happen when a Devil possesses a human corpse, but instead, Denji was allowed to live on while Pochita’s mind was the one to disappear.
Able to fight the Zombie Devil, Denji would save himself by killing it and its zombie creations which were formerly the Yakuza members who Denji owed money to. Freed of his debt, but missing his dog and not sure what exactly was happening to him, Denji would meet Makima, a Devil hunter of the government’s Public Safety Bureau. Smitten, Denji would agree to whatever Makima asked of him, which included coming to work for Public Safety or being murdered for being a Fiend.
Now employed, Denji would be partnered with human Devil hunter, Aki Hayakawa, and eventually Fiend Devil hunter, Power, who Denji had originally had to fight and team up with on another case. Learning his powers and limitations, since he’s technically a Devil, Denji must drink blood to recover from deadly wounds and power his abilities. He would befriend more Public Safety members, mostly their Fiend members, and try to get closer with Makima. He was even made privy to Public Safety’s, and all countries’ Devil hunting organizations, hunt for the deadliest Devil, the Gun Devil, responsible for millions of deaths at a time.
There you have it! Chainsaw Man is a fairly recent manga series as of this writing and it has an anime series coming soon.
