Batwoman has been one of the most interesting members of the Bat family, she’s technically not a part of it but also very much is. Before that, she was a way to make people think Batman wasn’t gay but now she’s here to be gay and fight crime. She’s now the star of her own CW television show and let’s see how it is!
If you’ve watched any or all of the CW DC shows, you knows there’s a bit of a formula, which is fine since many comic books also carry this formula of a procedural, there’s a villain, hero has to stop villain. Batwoman seems to be following that system and it’s an enjoyable, if predictable, ride.
The first episode plays out as a bit of a condensed Batman Begins, a good movie to crib from for an intro to your audience. You may not have seen the CW crossover event that first showed us Batwoman, I hadn’t, and I still feel quite satisfied with what I’ve been shown of Kate Kane’s early years. We get to see her train, we see her rejected from the military for who she loves.
Her family life has the roster of characters who will likely become her inside team as these shows are prone to do. It’ll be fun seeing when and how everyone if finally inducted into Team Batwoman. That’ll be factor for me with the rest of the show, sometimes the CW hero shows can drag their feet when it comes to letting people in on the secret but hopefully it’s not too long here.
This is a bit of its own ideas along with the comics from the last decade spliced in. Some familiar faces, both good and bad appear. Others are new but bring some interesting possibilities for what they’ll add to the mix. The show has lots of possibilities and promise so I look forward to seeing where it can go. Especially if it brings in some more comics story lines. Batwoman comics have some been some of my favorites over the years.
If you’re a fan of the CW DC shows, this is another one to add to the watch list, if you’re new to them, this could be a great jumping on point. One of the fun parts of these shows is how wild they get as they go on in seasons. First season could look really tame by the time we get to season four when we’re dealing with the 5th crossover event with all the other shows. Might as well get in on the ground floor for this one.
