Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 05/29/19

Amazing Spider-Man #22 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I didn’t see that ending coming but now I wish it hadn’t and Kraven had been utilized a different way. Still a solid read but not on par with their first similar encounter.

Angel #1 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: What is Bryan Hill NOT writing lately?! New and seasoned fans of Angel will enjoy this one here!

Batman: Last Knight on Earth #1 (DC)
Arnab:
Been backed up on comics, but from the first page I was hooked. Forgot how great Snyder, Capullo, Glapion, and Plascencia are on Batman together.
Infinite Speech: Snyder and Capullo deliver a twisted future for Batman and we have a certain machine to thank for this. It was worth the time and six bucks!
Martin: 5/5 stars. The story here is great, but what propels this to the 5/5 score is the fantastic Capullo art, which has to take Bruce/Batman through so many different environments that it’s almost hard to keep up. “Mad Max” Wonder Woman FTW!

Black Panther #12 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Coates finally reveals the motive for the mission and as things come full circle it’s evident that we’re in for something big!

Catwoman Annual #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: That was one hell of a story and Joelle Jones has done something great with Selina since taking over her adventures.

Daredevil #6 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: How many times has Matt quit being DD now? Ah well, Zdarskey is still doing good things with the new series.

Detective Comics Annual #2 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. A great villain in the Reaper, good writing, and fun scenes between Bruce & Gordon and Bruce & Alfred. Alfred acting as bait was also a nice touch. But the story seems out of place given the current Arkham Knight storyline.

Doomsday Clock #10 (DC)
Martin: 5/5 stars. My favorite issue of the series so far, this one focuses on Doctor Manhattan and reveals a lot more about the state of the DC Multiverse, or, more properly, “Metaverse” and Doctor Manhattan’s role in changing things. Fabulous art as always.

Fantastic Four #10 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: A War of the Realms tie-in that was fun and the Richard’s kids help protect Yancy street with some help!

Forgotten Queen #4 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: I took a guess on who she could be related to and looks like I was right! That reunion is going to be awkward!

Heroes in Crisis #9 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. A disappointing end to a disappointing series. This series should have been so much more, and King has the chops to have made it so. I’m not sure what happened. The treatment of Wally is unforgivable. Best part was the Red Tornado cameo.
Infinite Speech: The best part of this was Harley and Ivy reuniting because the rest of this was a complete mess.

Superior Spider-Man #6 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Doctor Strange and Doc Ock need to team-up again.

Superman: Leviathan Rising #1 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. A lot of fun with a combination of noir/detective vibe, some silver-age goofiness with the Jimmy Olsen segment, and great scenes with Lois, Batman & Wonder Woman. Lois’ treatment is a stand-out in this issue. Kudos to Rucka for that.

Star Wars: Darth Vader – Dark Visions #4 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Vader has people so shook they just keep making the biggest failures of their lives.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #94 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: I hope you’ve been reading this series because it’s one of THE best TMNT runs ever!

Thor #13 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: So they went and redeemed Cul? Well at least we find out what happens to Freya!

X-Men: Grand Design: X-Tinction #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Ed Piskor recounts the history of the X-Men in a style all his own and it should be in your collection regardless of how long you’ve been a fan!
