Adventures of the Supersons #8 (DC)
Infinite Speech: This reminds me of one of those weird stories I read as a kid that made me love comics!
Avengers #16 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I’m ready for the Ghost Rider arc to begin after Blade and the team finishes off these vampires! This team has made me a believer!
Avengers: No Road Home #4 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This is one focuses on Nyx and her children but the real payoff is at the end!
Batman #66 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Tom King has made the fallout of Batman’s failed wedding one of the best stories happening and now I want Tom King to do a noire style book with the Question.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Art that evokes Miller’s “Batman: Year One” era, with a Catwoman-centric story (kind of). The best part for me was seeing Vic Sage (the Question). I hope we get to see more of him somewhere soon.
Deathstroke #41 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Priest continues to elevate Slade and his world in every issue and as long as he’s on it it’ll continue to stay in my read pile!
Domino: Hotshots #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Domino and her new crew mixes their own crazy with Celestial powered crazy and it could only be this awesome from Gail Simone and David Baldeon!
Doomsday Clock #9 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The art continues to be the biggest seller for me, and the pages showing the various hero teams flying to Mars were great (the Bat Family, the old Charlton heroes, the Shazam family, Doom Patrol…). The main narrative is still a bit disjointed.
Female Furies #2 (DC)
Martin: 1/5 stars. I don’t think I’ve ever given anything just 1 star before, but this was so bad. What could’ve been a unique, compelling exploration of sexual politics on Apokalips, is completely thrown out the window here. Aurelie is just made a victim to be berated.
Green Arrow #50 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. GA was one of my favorite Rebirth titles when it launched, but it’s been one of the more uneven titles. The end to this current iteration feels rushed, leaving a lot of territory unexplored. The art is great, however. But the story needed more time.
Green Lantern #5 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Spectacular, detailed, Liam Sharp art perfectly matches this weird, horror-influenced chapter of Morrison’s science-fiction heavy story. There’s so much to love here, but in particular I liked the exploration of the different neighborhoods.
Incidentals #16 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech: It was a slow burn but the team is finally coming together and I’m loving the costume designs.
Justice League #19 (DC)
Infinite Speech: If you like big team books then this one is where you need to be! Every issue feels like a huge moment and this one is the biggest one yet! HOLY $#@!
Martin: 4/5 stars. As much as I love the big multiverse-scope story that Snyder’s doing here, I also love smaller moments like Clark at work trying to finish his story. Throw in some fun Silver Age goofiness with Mr. Mxyzptlk, and it all adds up to a great story.
Killmonger #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Bryan Hill and Juan Ferreyra put the exclamation point on this mini-series and exceeded all of my expectations!
Noble #16 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech: It is insane how great this series has been and this issue just builds towards something even bigger! Oh, and Randolph and Lopez’s cover is a great bookend to issue #15!
Prisoner X #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Everywhere I turn there’s a fire story being written by Vita Ayala and this one is no different. They have given me an Age of X-Man tie-in that I’m sticking with ’till the end!
Ronin Island #1 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: I’m here for Greg Pak’s new series and for little old ladies leading the charge into battle! This is definitely a comic you should pick up!
Sandman Universe: The Dreaming #7 (Vertigo)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Honestly this story is confusing as all get-out, but the gorgeous art by artist Abigail Larson makes for a visual feast. There’s a lot going on here that ties into other Sandman Universe titles, the Special, & previous Sandman stories.
Star Wars: Vader: Dark Visions #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Any chance you get to read a story that shows off the greatness of Darth Vader you should take it and read it over and over again!
Young Justice #3 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Lots of all-ages fun, with a focus on Conner Kent. As much fun as those flashback scenes were, and the ones with Conner & Bart, my favorite part was the other characters talking in “word bubbles” above the dungeon pits in which they are trapped.
