There’s a saying about how the more things change, the more they stay the same, and that’s particularly relevant when it comes to comic books. Batman has gone through a slew of changes over the years, from Bruce’s spine breaking, to him dying, to the new52 Batman, to  now, but no matter the change Batman lives on. This book boasts a rebirth, but in actuality it’s no different than any other time a new creative team takes over. Which isn’t to say that it isn’t good or exciting, Batman always is, it’s just wasn’t something strikingly different from what we’ve been reading in Batman for weeks now. This issue was absolutely solid. Scott Snyder and Tom King work well together and this issue is evidence of that. The two did a great job with the story, writing a nice bit of action as well as character driven scenes. It’s got your new and improved villain, Batman’s got a new rookie who’s not a Robin, Gordon’s around town saving lives, it’s basically everything you want in a Batman book.  Truly speaking however, Mikel Janin’s art, with colors by June Chung, is the absolute star of this issue. This book reads tremendously well, but visually is absolutely fantastic. 4.5/5
