Captain America and the Mighty Avengers #7
Publisher: Marvel
Writer: Al Ewing
Artist: Iban Coello & Rachelle Rosenberg
Cover: Leinil Francis Yu & Matt Milla
Before the end of the Marvel Universe happens the Mighty Avengers have some work to do or it might take place a bit sooner. Half of the team has been mutated into hideous monsters and the other half is attempting to stop the Beyond Corporation who have a past with Spectrum. So, needless to say, she’s not happy to see that they’re back after what they did to her during her Nextwave days.
Al Ewing has made sure that this series has been fun and even with things coming to and end he wraps up this arc without letting it feel like a filler issue. The team chemistry is developing nicely and it’s great that A list characters like Spider-Man have more of a support role. This gives the others some time to shine and Ewing has been handling that nicely especially with Blue Marvel and Spectrum. As much as there’s been focus on Cage and Captain America it’s the others that have stood out in these stories. And when we get to see them cut loose it’s always something you want to see. Whether it’s Blue Marvel showing off his brilliance or Spectrum pushing her powers to new heights Ewing has made this a great Avengers team to check out on a regular.
There is a lot of visual goodness here from Iban Coello who makes this just as much fun for your eyes. The action is intense and you can just feel the slow motion effect happening when Cap kicks the mutated Quickfire in the face! Rachelle Rosenberg handles the colors and keeps things bright and strong in every panel. The sequence with Kevin Brasher looks fantastic as his unique energy signature is displayed as he helps out his father and brother.
This is another great issue that is a nice contrast to the darker toned Avengers titles that are out there. Though with the world ending Ewing leaves us with a nice cliffhanger that will pull this team into what’s been going on with their other teammates. If you’re not reading this title then you’re missing out and should give it a try!
