Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 07/30/14

Adventures of Superman #15 (DC)
NickZ: This series has had the best Superman stories around and this issue is no exception.

All-New Ghost Rider #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Looks like there’s more to this new Ghost Rider and it’s good enough to stick around to find out!
Jeff: As good as this introduction to the new Ghost Rider was, Tradd Moore’s art got more ridiculous and over-the-top with each issue.

Avengers #33 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: It’s weird. It’s sci-fi. And Hickman is kicking ass with this!

cyclops 3Avengers World #10 (Marvel)|
Infinite Speech: This series just keeps getting better and better!

Batman: Detective Comics #3 (DC)
NickZ: “Icarus” was a fantastic Batman story! I loved how passionate Batman gets when children are being hurt, even if it’s from their parents.

Batman Eternal #17 (DC)
Arnab: Dustin Nguyen’s art is the only reason this arc hasn’t lost me as a reader.
Martin: 3/5 stars. So much of this just seems like stuff we’ve seen in past issues. Plus we get a Deacon Blackfire origin. Meh.
NickZ: I love Dustin Nguyen’s art on this book. His style works so well with Batman and the supernatural elements too!

Black Science #7 (Image)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. An awesome kick-off to the 2nd arc with major character changes and a great cliffhanger ending.
NickZ: Black Science returns with another killer issue! I don’t know how long this series can go on with everyone dying like this.

Chew Warrior Chicken Poyo #1 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Poyo is the baddest cyborg chicken in existence! Read this and enjoy!
NickZ: Read Warrior Chicken Poyo for the incredible action and comedy, stay for the excellent last page cameo!

Cyclops #3 (Marvel)
Arnab: This book is so good. #teamcyclops
Infinite Speech: Damn, this was just sad. You really feel for kid Cyclops in this one.
Jeff: This could very well be the best Cyclops story ever written.
NickZ: It takes being stranded on an alien world, but the father/son bonding you been waiting for begins here.

day men 4Day Men #4 (BOOM!)
Arnab: When it’s out, this title is gold.
Infinite Speech: This title is worth the extended wait between issues!

East of West #14 (Image)
Arnab: Hands down one of the top five books available on the market right now.
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Fabulous art as always, but the world-building and character development in this issue are fantastic as well.

Five Weapons #10 (Image)
Infinite Speech: I’m very sad to see that this is the final issue of such a great series. Get the trade folks!

Guardians of the Galaxy #17 (Marvel)
Arnab: Hrm, weird. Why wouldn’t Venom just come out of the shadows?
Jeff: Sidling us with two clashing artists, a quick tie-up to a story, and a let-down on the Gladiator/Drax fight was a great way to introduce new readers to the shameful way Marvel handles it’s properties in comic book form.

Hawkeye #19 (Marvel)
NickZ: There are no rules when it comes to Hawkguy. Matt Fraction just does whatever the hell he wants with this book and it works.

Justice League #32 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The post-Forever Evil JL is one of my favorite arcs of the series so far. Love Doom Patrol but dislike Chief.
NickZ: Lex Luthor in the Justice League is the best thing to happen to this book since ever.

Low #1 (Image)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Really unique & interesting art combined w/ strong character work & world building. Premise is a bit depressing though!
NickZ: Remender has done it again! With one issue, i’m already hooked and don’t get me started on Tocchini’s amazing art. Another Sci-fi masterpiece.

New Avengers #21 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: That was rough for everyone involved but worse for T’Challa. Poor guy.

east of west 14New 52 Futures #End #13 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. It’s starting to feel like there are way too many story lines in this. I wouldn’t mind some focus.

Original Sin: Hulk vs. Iron Man #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Wow! Tony is getting his gamma irradiated comeuppance!
Jeff: Mark Bagley gets a lot of flack from folks, but I think he’s still just fantastic, and things just keep getting bad for Tony.

Outcast #2 (Image)
NickZ: This book continues to be terrifyingly delightful. This is Kirkman’s first book that lives up to the Walking Dead/Invicible standard he set a decade ago.

Samurai Jack #10 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: The opening theme plays for hours in my head after reading Zub’s stories!

Smallville Special #5 (DC)
NickZ: This Zatanna and Constantine team-up is delightful.

Super Secret Crisis War #2 (IDW)
NickZ: Last issue the villains showed what they could do together, this time is the heroes turn!

Uncanny Avengers #22 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Is EVERY Avengers book this week ending on a bad note?
Jeff: I still don’t understand the continuity of this story.
NickZ: How much of this is going to remain cannon? Is burt face Havok really married to Wasp? Do they have a daughter? Is Sunfire body-less? I need answers.

Uncanny X-Men #24 (Marvel)
Arnab: Considering all the shit Xavier has pulled, I can’t believe his death is still such a big deal.
Infinite Speech: This one was way better than last month’s issue.
Jeff: It looks like the seeds are really being sown for a reunification of the team.
NickZ: Xavier is what? With what? Who? WHAT?

Veil #4 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: It’s creepy and looks fantastic so you should be reading Veil!

the wake 10The Wake #10 (DC/Vertigo)
Arnab: This series was absolutely fantastic. Y’all should go pick it up in a trade, it’s absolutely gorgeous. Sean Murphy is amazing.
Jeff: Well, that sure ended with a resounding whimper.
Martin: 5/5 stars. A very satisfying conclusion to the 10-issue with some of @Sean_G_Murphy ‘s best art in the series yet.
NickZ: The Wake was a fantastic series from start to finish. It’s no wonder they won all those Eisner’s. Pick up the trade if you haven’t read it yet.

Witchblade #177 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: Damn, and I was just starting to like her.

X-Men #17 (Marvel)
Arnab: Beast is a couple loose screws from being Dark Beast nowadays.
Infinite Speech: A strong ending that made up for the earlier issues.
Jeff: I just don’t care a bit about this book anymore.
NickZ: Beast is basically a mad scientists who must be stopped at all cost.

X-O Manowar #27 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Getting background on the Hunters just made everything better!

I’m starting to agree, Nick. Most of the future incarnations of Beast don’t show him ending up too well and I think that’s the path we’re on now.
