Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 8/31/2011

Amazing Spider-Man #668 (Marvel)
Andy: I admit- I thought Spider-Island would be a dose of stupid. It’s not. It’s really well done and I’m really into it.
Infinite Speech: Spider Island is THE event to be reading right now!
Jeff: This is a fun event. I’m really liking this premise of Peter being able to be open about his powers.

Deadpool Max #11 (Marvel)
Andy: Yep, if you’re 18 or older, this is the only Deadpool book you should be reading.
NickZ: With such a disturbing childhood, it’s no wonder Deadpool is as screwed up as he is.

Epoch #1 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Angels, demons, and detectives. Okay, Epoch, you’ve got my attention now let’s hope you keep impressing!

Fear Itself: The Deep #3 (Marvel)
NickZ: Namor is finally starting to act a bit more like Namor. Meanwhile, Dr. Strange is kicking ass!

Flashpoint #5 (DC)
Andy: Hmm… not as clarifying as I would have hoped. If there was one time where it’s appropriate for Bruce to cry like a little girl, this was it.
Arnab: Eh, it was a decent finish. Glad Flashpoint’s over with. That last scene, Bruce crying over a letter from his “father” from a different universe, gag.
Infinite Speech: Felt rushed a bit and what was all the hype about Cyborg for? He didn’t matter at all. Best moment was between Bruce and Barry. Just perfect.
NickZ: Not too bad. I really liked this series from start to finish. If the letter from the beyond at the end didn’t get you all teary eyed, you’re dead inside!

Herc #6.1 (Marvel)
Andy: If you haven’t been reading the new Herc and the cool things Pak & Van Lente are doing with him, check out this issue. For once the .1 initiative does its job.

Incredible Hulks #635 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: A little anti climatic but still a solid story to close out Pak’s run on a great title!

Invincible #82 (Skybound)
NickZ: It still feels like Mark is about to call it quits, either that or his new way of doing things is going to blow up in his face… just like Vegas!

Iron Man 2.0 #8 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Thanks Spencer for making War Machine the star of his own title again and getting back to the story that matters.
Journey Into Mystery #626.1 (Marvel)
Andy: Wow the .1’s are 2/2 this week. I’m loving this new take on Loki. Kid Zeus didn’t work out so well, but kid Loki is highly amusing.

Justice League #1 (DC)
Andrew: Not the epic launching event I was expecting, but still a good issue.
Andy: I’m ok with a slow build, but Geoff Johns really needs to bring his A game in the next issues…
Arnab: This was a great Batman/Green Lantern issue. What’s that? This was a Justice League issue? Decent start, but it should have been an amazing start.
Infinite Speech: Loved seeing Lee and Williams again and I’m willing to see what this new Justice League is all about.
NickZ: Not a great first issue. The art was awesome, as was Batman interaction with GL, but not much happened. Also, GL and his constructs are already getting on my nerves.

Last Mortal #4 (Image)
Andy: This was an explosive original story. Read it. And remember where the ouroboros tattoo came from…
Arnab: This was a great story from start to finish. And the art is fantastic.

Planet of the Apes #5 (BOOM!)
Andy: Totally worth $1, but totally not my thing.

The Sixth Gun #14 (Oni)
Andy: A solid one-shot story that gives us the background of an upcoming player. This series is consistently one of the best indies on the shelves.

Skull Kickers #10 (Image)
NickZ: Where else will you see someone keep their friend from bleeding to death by plugging up their wound with a dead squirrel!?! ‘Nuff said!

Spider Island: Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Spider-Chang, Spider-Chang. He’ll spider kick you in the wang!
Infinite Speech: The art took some getting used to but the story well worth it for an event tie in!

Ultimate Comics Hawkeye #1 (Marvel)
Andy: I’m really liking where the Ultimate Universe is headed. This one was a little wordy, but a good start to this mini.

Uncanny X-Force #14 (Marvel)
Andy: This book is just amazing. Every person who calls themselves an X-fan NEEDS to read it. Talk about developing a character beyond what you ever imagined!
Arnab: Hot Damn. This book just gets better and better. The writing, the story, it’s all amazing stuff. And the art, well that’s just gorgeous.
Infinite Speech:
This is the X book that all the other X books are jealous of!
Jeff: Jerome Opena, please draw this book every month. Thank you.
NickZ: Holy F*#K!! This book is friggin AMAZING!! Every X-Men fan, past or present, should not miss out on this series!

Vescell #1 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Something new and definitely worth checking out for sci fi, noir, and fantasy fans! Plus you get 33 pages of story and no ads for only 2.99!

Witchblade #147 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: Marz & Sejic’s run is coming to an end but you’d never know it with the heat these guys are still bringing, Oh, & Tiamat never looked sexier!

So I take it that Uncanny X-Force gave us all nerdgasms.

It gave me one too, though I didn’t want to share it.
