THE 2ND ANNUAL COMIC ATTACK GRAPHIC NOVEL GIVEAWAY

Yes, you read that right. The SECOND annual graphic novel giveaway. So let’s answer your first question: “What do you mean ‘second’? When did the first one happen?” Well, not to be rude, but a year ago, clearly. Hence the word “annual”… but to be more specific, the first giveaway took place during some of the heady summer days of the second year of the Covid pandemic. As you may remember, among many other sad things, there was a reported rise in attacks on people in the Asian American community and followed the nationwide marches protesting the ongoing issue of police brutality and militarization in America.

So in an effort to offer support to the various causes struggling for equity and freedom, one of our contributing editors decided that they would hold a fundraiser to benefit some of their favorite charities. The editor released a statement on their personal Instagram offering complete sets of graphic novels to people who donated to those specific charities and emailed them the proof of their donations. To their delight and surprise, they helped raise nearly $900 for AAPI and Black Lives Matter charities. A year later and the Supreme Court has decided that half of the population of America should have less bodily autonomy and fewer rights, so we at ComicAttack.net think the time has come again to stand in support of our communities by helping the great organizations get the funding they need to continue to fight for all of our rights.

It’s simple: below is a list of charities that advocate for and support everything from the rights of sex workers to the mental health of immigrants in AAPI communities to Black Lives Matter to voting and reproductive rights. All you have to do is pick your favorite charity and donate the amount of money that matches or exceeds the suggested donation of $15 then choose the book or books you’d like us to send to you (up to two books per donation). Then all you have to do is send the confirmation of your donation to Comicattack2009@gmail.com with your name and the address you’d like the books to be sent to and VOILA you will have made a difference in the world and you will get a bunch of amazing writing and art at a profound discount.

In all seriousness, things are rough in the world right now and we know many of us go to comics, sci-fi and all manner of pop media as an escape from the constant barrage of bad news and under the normal circumstances, that is not only a fine way to manage stress but also a healthy one as well. Unfortunately, these recent years can be classified as a lot but “normal” hasn’t been one for some time now and turning away from those in need to bury your nose in a book or a film as the bombs drop down around our heads is not a good look. With the sheer amount of problems in the world it could become very easy to feel powerless and to lose yourself and despair because you simply don’t know what to do. Do this.

For very little of your time and for not a large amount of money (which you were always going to spend on stuff exactly like this anyway) you can help make things better. You don’t need to be on the front lines to make a difference, all you really have to do is to lend your support for the people who are doing the work and you’ve done your part to make the world a better place. Despite all the doom we download in our heads from social media and all of the horrors we see in the news, know with complete certainty that we are not too far gone to be saved if we save each other.
