Top Cow Reviews: Angelus #6

Angelus #6
Publisher:
Top Cow
Writer: Ron Marz
Artist: Stjepan Sejic
Cover: Stjepan Sejic

“Illumination pt 6”: After all of her scheming and plotting, Sabine has made her move to try and take the power of the Angelus from its current host, Danielle Baptiste. Attacking Dani’s friend Finch with the power of the Wheel of Shadows, she’s aged her to a point where she’s knockin’ on death’s door. Then she manages to take their fight to Heaven so she can attempt to kill the Angelus in front of everyone in one on one combat and prove herself worthy of being its host. With the power of the stolen Artifact and her lust for power, Sabine feels she has the upper hand, but she may have bit off more than she can chew in picking a fight with Dani.

The Angelus series wraps up with this issue as Sejic and Marz close it out on a definite high note! This issue was your classic good vs. evil battle with some great dialog thrown in there to move it along. There’s nothing better than a great fight with witty banter, and Marz provides that for us from start to finish. Now, as much as I liked what this issue presented, I was also a little disappointed at what seemed like an abrupt ending to a battle that Sabine had been planning for quite some time. I knew with Artifacts taking place right now that it wasn’t going to be a huge “end game” type battle, but I did want to see a bit more happen between the two. It could also be that I wanted an excuse to see more of Sejic’s work, which I don’t think anyone would complain about.

Speaking of the artwork in Angelus #6, it’s more of Sejic’s visual dynamite that we’ve come to enjoy! This guy is a beast and it’s great to see that he’s put a good amount of time into making sure that each issue in this series has looked great. From the splash pages to the panel layouts, you’re not going to be disappointed in what you get.

I like what Top Cow has allowed Marz to do with Dani’s character ever since she became the Angelus and stepped out of Sara’s shadow as a Witchblade bearer. With what’s been put forth so far, it just shows that she’s strong enough to stand on her own, and I’d definitely check out another Angelus mini-series later on down the line. So now I’m looking forward to the rest of Artifacts since this series not only helped to establish the role of the new Angelus, but hopefully will lay the groundwork for that serious battle between Sabine and Dani that I’d like to see.

Till next time!

Sounds like a great issue as usual from this crew. Stejic is an unbelievable artist.
