What do you do when the guy you’ve been beating up on finally gets some reinforcements? Well after you change your pants, you ask all of them to join your cause of course. However, the nano powered kids reject Deadalus’s offer and plow into the battlefield, giving Mini the help he desperately needs. The battle is a furious one and it’s the first time we get to see the team in action displaying their individual powers. Their mentor Gabriel is also fighting a battle of sorts, as he has begun to seriously doubt himself and the readiness of the A.P.N.G. Not to mention that his wife still has issues with his decision on sending their sons away and is very worried considering the situation the boys are in on the other Earth. Deadalus’s metalmites are also proving a bit much, as it seems as if the combined power of the A.P.N.G. may not be enough because of their inexperience.
This was one of the better issues in terms of story pacing and the artwork. I like the fact that we’re getting to see more of the twins, though a lot about them is still left up to speculation. Gabriel’s inner conflicts and then the issues with his wife are played out well and add another level to the story’s credibility. Rashid seemed to step up the visuals for this issue to give it more of a visual punch during the action scenes. I did notice that the calmer scenes weren’t as strong, but did their job in terms of story progression. I wonder if Deadalus’s transformation is complete, because from issue to issue he’s becoming a darker and more vicious creature. Only time will tell. – IS

After seeing the carnage that Deadalus caused last issue, the mutates are still trying to stop him in his tracks. The problem is though, that his nano-tech beasts keep repairing themselves when they get damaged. As Deadalus is giving a severe beating to the young heroes, and the twins on Earth are in jeopardy next, we see the inevitable. Gabriel confronts his former friend, and means to put a stop to his tyrannical motives. Well, I don’t want to ruin it for you, but I can tell you that a monstrous brawl breaks out between Gabriel and Deadalus. Gabriel also brings some of his personal tech with him to help the mutates stop the advancing horde of nano-beasts.
All in all, the series is refreshing for several reasons. The biggest being either the style of artwork, or the storytelling in the third issue. This is something you should check out even if only for the fact that it is something different from the current status quo. – Billy
I’m all for anything that would get a younger audience reading comics again and New-Gen is one of those stories that has the potential to be one of those titles. It’s been a fun ride, and since the plans for the series expand beyond comics I think it would do well as a cartoon series, and I’d probably be the first to pick up a figure of Mini since he’s my favorite of the team. And speaking of the team, it looks like we haven’t seen all of the members after taking a look at the New-Gen site, so it will be interesting to see how the story plays out.
