Welcome back! When last we left Laura Kinney, X-23, she was willing to sacrifice herself to stop a deadly virus from spreading. Thankfully, her fellow teammate was able to cure her and stop any of that from happening. So let’s get back to Laura’s story!
The X-Men moved to San Francisco and Laura went with them. Kimura would find Laura and take her back to the facility and taking Laura’s arm off. She’d have to have it heal back and adamantium re-laced to the bones with the help of Dr. Nemesis. A demon-possessed Wolverine would tell Laura that she has no soul. This would jar her and she would leave the X-Men to go and find more about herself.
Accompanied by Gambit, Laura would learn that former director of the Weapon X program, Malcolm Colcord was not only trying to restart the program, but had found a way to make Laura’s trigger scent work on ordinary people to induce murderous rage. Teaming up with Wolverine’s son, Daken, they would be able to stop Colcord from starting up Weapon X again but they would need to travel to Paris to stop the production of the new trigger scent.
In Paris, Laura would team up with Wolverine and Jubilee to find the scent. While they were able to stop production they couldn’t find who was in charge of it all. Heading back to New York, Laura would get involved with the Future Foundation and rescue Valeria Richards from a demon king. Valeria’s mother Sue would ask Laura to babysit Valeria and her brother Franklin while she was on a mission. Soon enough on this babysitting adventure, the three would get taken by the Collector and have to escape.
Laura’s blood would be stolen and she’d tack down the culprit who had not only cloned her but bonded the clones with alien symbiotes. This would bring together Laura with Ghost Rider, Red Hulk, and Venom to stop these clones. She would learn she did have a soul and end up having to fight her way out of hell assisted by Johnny Blaze, the original Ghost Rider.
Laura would find a connection with the Avengers Academy and join the students there. She and teammate Mettle would commiserate on having killed and being forced to live with the consequences. She would end up kidnapped with several of her Academy teammates along with other kid and teen heroes to fight in a recorded free-for-all kill or be killed event hosted by Arcade. She’d escape with a few of her teammates and fellow prisoners.
Once freed, Laura would be found in Miami suffering amnesia by Kitty Pryde and the time-tossed original X-Men kids. She would go along with them and deal with such threats as the Purifiers and even go into outer space, teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy for the trial of Jean Grey. Returning to Earth, Laura would prove vital in stopping a future team of the Brotherhood of Evil from destroying the past and present X-Men. When Wolverine dies, Laura takes on his costume and title to become the new Wolverine where she has worked with a possible future Wolverine and has teamed up with Doctor Strange.
There you have it! Laura Kinney has had some interesting twists and turns on her path of finding herself. She’s also stabbed a lot of people, possibly literal tons of people. How long will she hold the Wolverine name for? Who knows but I’m interested in seeing what she does with her time wearing the mask and using the name! See you next time!
